The 8 Areas Everyone Forgets to Clean

Your home passes the visual test. Counters are clean, floors are swept, bathroom looks fine. But there are eight spots almost everyone overlooks — and they're silently affecting your air quality, your appliances, and your health.

1. REFRIGERATOR COILS

Dust-covered coils make your refrigerator work harder, use more energy, and wear out faster. They're usually at the back or underneath. Pull the fridge out once a year and vacuum them.

2. SHOWER DOOR TRACKS

The horizontal groove at the bottom of sliding shower doors collects soap scum, hair, and mold in a channel that almost never gets scrubbed. A toothbrush and baking soda changes everything.

3. LIGHT SWITCHES AND DOOR HANDLES

These are the most-touched surfaces in your home and among the least-cleaned. Wipe them with a disinfectant solution weekly — especially in kitchens and bathrooms.

6. BASEBOARDS

They collect dust, hair, and grime in a stripe along your entire home. Most people see them every day and never think to clean them. A damp microfiber cloth takes five minutes per room.

7. KITCHEN EXHAUST FAN FILTER

Grease accumulates on range hood filters until they stop working entirely. Remove and soak in hot water with dish soap monthly if you cook regularly.

8. THE TOP OF YOUR REFRIGERATOR

Out of sightline, so out of mind — until you need something up there and disturb a layer of dust that's been accumulating since 2021. Wipe it down monthly.
